How SS-31 Works (Mechanism of Action)

Mitochondria are the “powerhouses” of your cells. When they are damaged, cellular energy drops, and toxic waste builds up. SS-31 enters cells without needing a transporter and heads directly for the inner mitochondrial membrane:

• Binds to Cardiolipin: It attaches to cardiolipin, a special fat molecule unique to the inner mitochondrial membrane. Cardiolipin acts like a structural scaffold that holds the cell’s energy-producing machinery together.

• Restores ATP (Cellular Energy) Production: By stabilising cardiolipin, SS-31 optimises the electron transport chain, helping damaged cells generate up to two to four times more ATP, or energy.

• Drastically Lowers Oxidative Stress: It prevents a protein called cytochrome c from morphing into a destructive peroxidase. This blocks the “leakage” of harmful reactive oxygen species (ROS) that destroy surrounding tissues.

• Prevents Programmed Cell Death: It inhibits the opening of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP). When this pore opens under intense physical stress, the cell swells up and bursts, causing tissue die-off.
